Our Mission at GEBIRGSHAUS KENNEL is to provide the very best in breeding and all services to canine owners and their pets or competition partners. We serve all breeds with the care, love and attention we offer our own dogs. Quality, whether in breeding or service, is never compromised for quantity at Gebirgshaus.

GEBIRGSHAUS KENNEL (Gebirgshaus means "mountain home") is located on more than 43 acres at the base of Bear Spring Mountain along the Delaware River, in the beautiful foothills of the Catskill Mountains in south central New York State.

Sue Manning, Gebirgshaus Kennel owner, was raised in a 4-H family and attended 4-H camp for many years. After marrying and having children of her own, Sue continued work in 4-H camp as an employee who took on many different job titles and responsibilities over the years. This afforded her a strong background in teaching, psychology, organization and administration. Strong values and sense of responsibility which came from her childhood, combined with a basic love of children and animals (especially German Shepards), a little creativity, and a big sense of humor put all the necessary ingredients in place for GEBIRGSHAUS KENNEL.

The Manning family moved to the Catskills in 1987 as the last of their children were preparing to graduate from high school. From the beginning, a German Shepherd had always been a part of the family. "Charlie," a wedding gift, was the very first. Upon moving to their new mountain home, Sue was encouraged to put her life experience and knowledge into becoming a professional trainer. No longer would Sue train just her dogs: Now she would make herself available to the public and their dogs. From these seeds, GEBIRGSHAUS KENNEL was born.

GEBIRGSHAUS KENNEL is a full service kennel, providing a complete line of services for canines and their owners. A strong foundation in TRAINING forms the basis of our services. Training includes basic and advanced pet obedience, all phases of AKC Title Obedience, the new sport of Fun Agility, and Problem Solving. For several years Sue participated in the sport of SCHUTZHUND. This afforded her a strong understanding of sound vs. unsound temperament in working dogs, an understanding that forms the basis for suitable training methods and breeding choices.

TATTOO IDENTIFICATION is a service we researched extensively and decided was a must for pet owners and professionals alike. This decision really was a result of our first dog, Charlie, being stolen and our total inability to take him back even with the police at our side. From boarding for both short and long term stays grew the extensive concept and reality of a "Vacation- Education Camp," CAMP PAK-A-NAP-SAK for the pets of professionals and others who travel frequently and need something other than "just kenneling" for their dogs.
